Vrbo reveals 10 emerging travel destinations for 2021: See the full list

If you’re daydreaming about finally taking a safe vacation once spring and summer rolls around, it can’t hurt to start scouting some possible destinations.

Vacation rental online marketplace Vrbo has released its list of top 10 emerging travel destinations for the new year.

Vrbo said in a statement its travel data shows customers are most interested in remote, private locations across the South and Midwest due to the coronavirus pandemic, with “easy access to the great outdoors” and areas “close to lakes and rivers for top-notch fishing, camping and hiking.”

About 59% of families say they are more likely to drive than fly for their next trip, according to Vrbo’s 2021 trend report. The CDC does recommend avoiding air travel when unnecessary, and many of these destinations may be a bit too far. However, there’s always the option to rent an RV.

If you’re seeking a road trip and vacation, here are Vrbo’s top 10 emerging travel destinations for 2021:

  1. Emory, Texas
  2. Smithville, Mo.
  3. Slade, Ky.
  4. Outer Banks, N.C.
  5. Mannford, Okla.
  6. Lafayette, Ind.
  7. Water Valley, Miss.
  8. Fredericktown, Mo.
  9. New Roads, La.
  10. Junction, Texas
