Roundup: Rfider links COVID-19 test with digital health pass for travel, Vietnam’s tourism app features health declaration form and more briefs

New Zealand-based Rfider links COVID-19 test with digital health pass for travel

New Zealand software firm Rfider has enabled a COVID-19 test in Singapore to connect with a digital health pass for international travel.

In a statement, the company said it has been chosen by Invitrocue, a Singapore-based bioanalytic solutions provider, to empower its saliva-based antigen and PCR-based COVID-19 tests with a technology that allows tracking, tracing and verification.

Through Rfider’s platform, the Invitrocue tests provide users with a unique ID that helps prevent counterfeiting and enables test results authentication.

It is also able to securely send the test reports to their mobile devices to be used as a travel pass.

Rfider says its technology has established compatibility with the Verity platform for such a purpose. Created by self-sovereign identity applications developer Evernym, the said platform is behind the digital health pass of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which is now being trialled at over 40 airlines globally, including the Australian flag carrier Qantas

“We are pleased to be working with Rfider to make this possible. With this partnership, individuals will be able to store their health data securely on their mobile device and privately share it with trusted providers and authorities with the tap of a button,” Evernym VP of Product James Monaghan said.

The Rfider technology, according to chief executive John Pennington, helps cut down the time to deliver test reports to workers at hospitality and tourism venues, which in turn, ushers in the recovery of in-person events around the world.

Dr Stephen Fang, executive director of Invitrocue, said its partnership with Rfider enabled them to “scale the deployment” of their testing platform and deliver results to users and even to decision makers in “real-time”. “It is a step-change in not only the way testing is conducted but how we can get better data faster,” he added.

Health declaration form integrated in Vietnam’s tourism app

Vietnam’s mobile tourism app called “Du lick Viet Nam an toan” now features a health declaration form.

According to a news report, the inclusion of the health declaration form, which connects to a system managed by the National Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control, is part of health authorities’ efforts to enhance their pandemic response. Adding the new feature also removes the need for users to switch to another platform just to fill out the form.

Launched last year in October by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the mobile app contains a digital map that shows information on restaurants, hotels, apartments, entertainment places, transport providers, hospitals and pharmacies.

The tourism app also provides the most updated information about the COVID-19 situation in any destination, including details about infection cases and the number of recovered patients.

Developers are working to add other features, such as COVID-19 safety verification, COVID-19 vaccine certification, health records, travel insurance and e-tickets.

The news report noted that due to the prevailing travel restrictions and border closures, there were only about 105,000 international tourist arrivals recorded in the country in the first eight months of 2021, a 97% decline compared to the same period in 2020.

Indian medical news portal goes mobile

Medical Dialogues, an online medical news portal in India, has launched its mobile app for Android and iOS devices.

The Google news-registered portal provides medical news, guidelines, interesting cases and news about the healthcare industry. It claims to have over two million visits each month. The news site has a HONcode certification for bringing authentic health information on the internet.

Its development, according to the company, comes following demand from over 600,000 medical fraternities who are registered users of the portal.

Aiming to empower and update doctors with medical knowledge, the app contains new features such as video library, webinars for doctors and interactive modules like quizzes, surveys and polls.

“As the pioneer of risk management in the country, doctors have to be associated with the medical updates under the COVID-19 guidelines as the virus is taking a new shape every week. Doctors need to be updated with the latest information about COVID-19. With maintaining the dictum of offering the best service, Medical Dialogues has launched the app for healthcare and medical professionals,” Dr Prem Aggarwal, co-founder of Medical Dialogues, said.

Vietnamese-American charity group extends free teleconsultations to COVID-19 patients in Vietnam

Vietnamese-American charity organisation Good Samaritan Medical Dental Ministry has collaborated with the provinces of Dong Nai and Tien Giang in Vietnam to deliver free remote doctor consultations with COVID-19 patients at home.

According to a news report, a telemedicine system will be used to connect the patients with doctors in the US and Vietnam for virtual consultations.

The report noted that Dong Nai and Tien Giang are among southern provinces in the country that reported high incidences of COVID-19 infections. In Dong Nai, for instance, around 23,000 citizens have contracted the disease with over 200 people already dead.

The charity group said they could accommodate between 200 and 300 COVID-19 patients for consultations “every four hours”. They also offered help to deliver blood oxygen monitoring devices and oxygen concentrators from the government to patients needing them.

How Do Social Media’s Virtual Tip Jar Features Compare?

Over the past few years, spurred by the growth of a creator-driven economy, a number of startups emerged to offer monetization services for influencers. Companies like Ko-fi and Buy Me a Coffee, for example, stepped up to offer third-party tipping platforms.

Alongside independent startups, major social media platforms are now rising to the occasion and offering in-suite tip jars, according to Insider’s Amanda Perelli, who recently reviewed some of the biggest tipping features in the game. Both YouTube and Twitter launched beta versions of in-suite tipping features in the past few months. Clubhouse and SoundCloud also recently announced features that would allow fans to pay their favorite creators directly.

So how do some of these in-suite tipping features and third-party tipping platforms compare? Here’s our breakdown:

In summary, third-party sites (Ko-fi, Buy Me a Coffee, or Koji) seem easy enough to use, encourage flexible one-time tips, and take little to no pay cuts. Although, having to go to a totally separate site to donate might be a barrier for some fans.

In-suite tipping features, in comparison, tend to offer a more gamified experience. Staying in-app might encourage regular tipping from fans since they won’t have to travel to an unfamiliar platform to support a creator.

However, in-app options are currently limited. TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram only allow tipping during live streams; YouTube and Twitter are still in beta stages. Another drawback is that TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook take a larger cut than most third-party apps.

If you’re a creator, what’s your experience with tipping features? Shoot us an email at xyzgracestanley@thedailydot.com to potentially get featured in a future newsletter.

Travel giant Amadeus adds features for travel app developer Hopper

If Covid’s pandemic proves any axiom, one ounce of prevention is worth a pound of treatment. If you cannot prevent or treat it, get insurance.

Travelers take that lesson seriously and try to hedge their bets as easily as possible when, where and by guaranteeing travel and fixing prices when returning to cars, planes and cruise ships. increase. According to the travel app Hopper, they are willing to pay for their peace of mind.

Frederick Larondo, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hopper, said:

To meet that need, Hopper will partner with Amadeus on Tuesday to provide Madrid-based global distribution system and travel software giant customers with fintech insurance and price freeze solutions through HopperCloud’s business-to-business initiative. Announced.

Hopper is North America’s largest travel app and proud to be the “mobile-first travel market.”

Expanding US reach, travel sites begin accepting Dogecoin

In return, hopper users will have access to Amadeus’ global car rental inventory through the Amadeus Travel Platform, with 40 car rental companies in more than 3,500 cities in 191 countries. Montreal-based Hopper recorded over 50 million downloads and $ 1.2 billion in sales over the past year from 2 million hotels, 300 airlines, and some existing car rental partners, at the end of last year. I started using Amadeus for flight content.

According to Lalonde, expanding partnerships is not surprising.

“Amadeus has a huge reach. As far as I know, Amadeus has become the largest travel technology provider in the world,” he added. [travel category].. “

This transaction is another step for hoppers to expand from travel to fintech, or financial services technology. “When we started thinking about how to bring our financial product, HopperCloud, to everyone, there was actually one name at the top of the list,” Lalonde said.

HopperCloud products from Amadeus include “cancel for any reason” and travel, which allows passengers to instantly cancel a flight reservation at least 24 hours before departure and regain more than 80% of the fare. Up to 14 days.

Travel agents using the Amadeus Travel Platform, such as online travel agencies and airlines, will be able to offer their customers Fintech products that Hopper takes on all risks once the company’s integration process is complete. According to La Rondo, the specialization of travel fintech products has allowed the company, with its US offices in New York and Cambridge, Massachusetts, to prosper as well as stand out.

“We are very good at pricing risks, price changes and turmoil,” he said, saying Hopper doubled its earnings during Covid.

“We are the only OTA [online travel agency] “I know it actually grew during the pandemic, except for the train-focused ones in India,” La Rondo said. Everyone? “

For Amadeus, this deal is part of an ongoing diversification project.

“We have been distributing traditional travel insurance from well-known insurance companies for many years. We have been very successful in a variety of channels, including online, offline and airlines,” said the company’s mobility. The person in charge, Peter Altman, said. Notice that Amadeus is empowering the website insurance purchasing services of 40 airlines.

We gradually moved from a travel agency to a financial company.

Frederick Larondo

Hopper CEO

But the hopper insurance type fintech is different, Altman said.

“We believe consumers buy more of these products than traditional travel insurance, especially the younger generation,” he adds, adding that cancellations for any reason as a financial services product are traditional insurance. He pointed out that he is not bound by global legal regulations. The policy is.

In addition, Altmann said, “To bring the app experience, we not only buy products in the app, but also do all the follow-up in the app.” So instead of submitting a billing form by registered mail or email, customers can complete their billing instantly via the app.

According to Hopper’s research, they are likely to be willing to find customers. According to the company, 80% of travelers say they will book a flight if they can change or cancel their tickets without penalty. (As part of that, Amadeus found that 41% of travelers book overseas travel within six weeks of the restrictions being lifted.)

Meanwhile, 60% buy at least one FinTech product as part of their travel booking, and 87% may buy it again, according to Hopper. According to La Rondo, these US travelers spend an average of $ 55 more on each booking.

Amadeus currently offers fintech such as Price Freeze, Photos and Cancel for Any Reason from travel app developer Hopper.

Amadeus

“For the same $ 1 trip, customers spend 15% more,” Lalonde told HopperCloud FinTech. Lalonde estimates that the total potential market for travel-related financial services is at least $ 200 billion. “It’s bigger than the game,” he said. “There is a great opportunity to develop it.”

Hoppers, whose FinTech development efforts launched in 2018 now account for half of their total revenue just a year later, may be looking at other financial services opportunities such as savings accounts. “We are very interested,” he said.

“We gradually moved from travel agencies to financial companies,” he said, saying Hopper took all the risks of FinTech products in the income statement. “There were more outstanding debt than cash,” La Rondo said when Covid hit. “There was a time when we were convinced that we were dead in 2020.”

“It was as bad as Covid, but later on, it’s invaluable to learn from the Black Swan event about customer behavior and risk models,” he added. “It would have taken decades to get the equivalent data.”

Airbnb Unveils New Tools, Features for Hosts and Guests

Yesterday, Airbnb announced 100+ new features, including more flexibility for guests to search dates, destinations, and listings.

But many of the biggest upgrades were saved for hosts:

  • Listing a new property was simplified from dozens of steps to 10.
  • 2x the number of support agents
  • Artificial intelligence systems will recommend names, descriptions, and the best photos to use. (Pro tip: Guests want to see the bed, not artsy shots of the credenza.)

Many of these features will take a few months to implement, but Airbnb is running short on time. And hosts. Although it has 5.4 million active listings, that will not be enough for what CEO Brian Chesky describes as a “once-in-a-century travel rebound.”

  • In Q1, Airbnb reported 64+ million booked nights and experiences, up 13% annually.
  • A quarter of trips were long-term stays (28 days or more).

Zoom out: Chesky admitted that Airbnb hasn’t been doing enough to help hosts, many of whom the company angered at the start of the pandemic when it allowed guests to cancel bookings and receive a full refund.

Pet Talk: Bone Voyage: International travel with pets | Features

As summer approaches and COVID-19 vaccine rollout continues, those with cabin fever may be planning exciting vacations abroad after spending the past year in their homes.

If pet parents are considering a vacation overseas and intend to bring their animal, they should plan for their furry friend far in advance and do ample research, according to Dr. Christine Rutter, a clinical assistant professor at the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences.

“Travel outside of the continental U.S. has specific rules, certifications, and, potentially, vaccination requirements,” Rutter said. “Some international travel requires preparation up to six months in advance and/or a quarantine period. Each country is different, so it will require some leg-work on the part of your certifying veterinarian to make sure you are in compliance.”

Pet owners should visit the U.S. Department of Agriculture – Animal and Plant Inspection Service (USDA-APHIS) website to review country-specific requirements for pet travel. Their pet resource page may help to answer many owner questions.

Most countries require that your pet be checked by a federally accredited veterinarian and that a United States Interstate and International Certificate for Health Examination for Small Animals (7001 USDA-APHIS Form) be issued by that veterinarian and endorsed by the USDA.

Before considering traveling with a pet, owners should consult their veterinary practice and see if any veterinarians there have experience providing documentation for international travel. It is also important to check with your local USDA Service Center to ensure that your veterinarian is USDA accredited. If they are not endorsed by the USDA, the paperwork they provide will not be valid.

The timetable for examination statements and certifications can be tight, so owners should plan in advance and ask questions of the relevant authorities to be sure all required paperwork is complete in time for their trip.

In addition to submitting required paperwork to the relevant agencies, owners may also want to keep paper copies of this documentation on-hand during their travel.

“Have a digital or hard copy of your pet’s vaccination history (including rabies certificate), microchip number, medications, and health records, if they have chronic illnesses or have had major surgeries,” Rutter said. “Ask your veterinarian what records she/he recommends you take with you in case your family vet’s office is closed (if they are needed while you’re abroad).”

You may also need to get your pet a rabies vaccine booster and/or have rabies antibody titers checked prior to traveling to a country considered to be high-risk for rabies. Although the U.S. recognizes three-year rabies vaccinations, some countries require annual rabies immunization.

Foreign nations may also require a quarantine period after your arrival. It’s best to check with the local government prior to your arrival to avoid any unwanted surprises.

For a long international flight, it’s also a good idea to have your veterinarian perform a check-up to confirm your pet is healthy enough to fly, and while there, you may consider asking about medication that may help your furry friend during the stress of travel.

“If your pet struggles with anxiety or motion sickness, ask your veterinarian how to best manage your pet’s needs during travel,” Rutter said. “This is probably a needed conversation if your pet has never traveled before or if your pet has fireworks phobia.”

Owners should also research the different facilities they will be stopping at on their journey to see what amenities are offered for pets, especially in terms of their bathroom needs.

“Most airports have a ‘pet relief’ area, and many have one in the air-side terminal. Do a little cyber-sleuthing or ask an airline representative where to find it. Nervous bladders may need to ‘go’ a bit more often, and a walk is good to settle the mind,” Rutter said. “Be sure your pet wears a collar or harness with a tag at all times while traveling in case of escapes. Outside of their normal environments, pets can become fearful or excited and bolt.”

Rutter also recommends having pet necessities on-hand for the duration of your travel.

“Carry waste bags, water, time-sensitive medications, and at least a small portion of your pet’s food on hand,” she said. “I also carry a cheap set of medical exam gloves (purchased over the counter) in case things get messy.”

It is also important to ensure that the appropriate arrangements have been made to accommodate your pet. Confirm with your lodging that animals are allowed, research nearby veterinary care facilities you can contact in case your pet has an emergency while on your trip, and have a plan for either bringing needed pet supplies with you or confirming that nearby stores carry the essentials your pet needs.

“If you have activities planned during your trip, can your pet go with you or stay at your lodging location unattended? Many hotels and rentals will allow your pets to stay with you but do not allow pets to stay unattended while you are away,” Rutter said.

It may also be beneficial to research the local cultural attitudes surrounding pets. Some countries may be more lenient about allowing pets in public areas than others.

Taking a pet abroad is a considerable endeavor, and it’s important to do ample research and plan in advance to avoid unwanted surprises and ensure your animal’s well-being. With the help of an experienced veterinarian and the right preparations, owners can determine the best option for their pet as they embark on their next adventure.
