Reigning America East Women’s Basketball Champions Announce 2021-22 Schedule

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook University women’s basketball head coach Ashley Langford has announced the Seawolves’ 2021-22 schedule on Wednesday morning. Stony Brook is slated to play a total of 29 regular season contests; 11 of which are non-conference matchups, followed by the 18-game America East schedule.
“I’m excited about our schedule and the caliber of opponents. The level of competition will prepare us for success in the America East and postseason,” said coach Langford as she discussed the 2021-22 schedule.
The reigning America East champions and first-year head coach Ashley Langford are set to tip-off the season on Tuesday, November 9, when they welcome Delaware State to Island Federal Arena. After the home opener, the Seawolves travel to Farmville, VA to go head-to-head with Longwood for the first time in program history.
Stony Brook returns to Long Island to host St. John’s out of the Big East on Sunday, November 14. The contest marks the first time since November 15, 2009, that the Seawolves and the Red Storm square off. Stony Brook continues non-conference play on Tuesday, November 16, when it heads to Piscataway, NJ to face perennial NCAA Tournament contender Rutgers out of the Big Ten.
Non-conference plays rolls on with road games at Iona on Saturday, November 20, and at Columbia on Wednesday, November 24. Three of the Seawolves’ final five non-conference games take place inside Island Federal Arena. Stony Brook plays host to St. Francis Brooklyn on Sunday, November 28. Following the meeting with the Terriers, the Seawolves make a trip to the Bronx to battle Fordham on Tuesday, December 2.
On December 7, Stony Brook begins a two-game homestand when it welcomes Marist to Island Federal Arena, followed by a meeting with Penn on Friday, December 10. Non-conference play concludes with a clash of Long Island rivals. Stony Brook heads into Nassau County to take on Hofstra in the Battle of Long Island on Tuesday, December 21.
America East Conference play returns to form this season and tips off on Thursday, December 30, when the Seawolves face NJIT in Newark, NJ in their first of two meetings. The teams meet again on Saturday, February 5, in the Island Federal Arena.
Stony Brook will play each team in the conference twice (once at home, once on the road). A rematch of the 2021 America East Championship final takes place on Sunday, January 9, when Stony Brook travels to Bangor, ME to meet Maine.
The Seawolves’ home regular season finale comes on Wednesday, February 23, against UMass Lowell. The 2021-22 regular season concludes on Saturday, February 26, when Stony Brook heads up to Albany to play the Great Danes.
The America East Tournament is set to go back to its usual format this season. The top eight teams from the regular season will qualify for the #AEPlayoffs with all games being played at the higher seed. The 2022 America East quarterfinals take place on Thursday, March 3, followed by the semifinals on Sunday, March 6. The Championship game will be played on Friday, March 11.
