Panthers Travel To Charlottesville For Virginia Challenge

High Point University track and field will be taking a full squad of athletes to Charlottesville for the UVA Challenge on Friday and Saturday afternoon. HPU’s distance contingent will be filling the distance events this weekend with hopes of producing regional marks and in some cases firming up regional spots.

Record Breakers

Three HPU records were broken last weekend at the Aggie Invitational as  Anthony Villavicencio broke his record in the hammer with a mark of 48.97m. Letizia Jessica Marsico set a new outdoor school record in the shot put with a mark of 13.37m. While Alicia Dawson set a new outdoor record in the triple jump with a mark of 11.99m.

Big South Athlete of the Week

Camryn Harper finished first in the 800m at the Aggie Invitational last weekend. Harper finished first in the 800 with a time of 2:08.16 which is a personal best time. She beat her previous personal best by five seconds. Harper’s time of 2:08.16 is the 33rd fastest time in the NCAA and is very close to qualifying regionally. 

Panthers in the Polls

 Both the High Point women’s and men’s track and field teams were in the national spotlight this week in USTFCCA Polls. In the USTFCCA Big South rankings, both sides were ranked #1 in the first week of the conference rankings. The Women remained in the southeast regional team rankings coming in at 9. The men rounded out the good news for the Panthers this week with a southeast regional team ranking of 13.
