LL Cool J, Q-Tip and more react to the passing of Biz Markie

The world of entertainment is mourning the loss of one of its members after Biz Markie’s manager confirmed the rapper’s passing today (July 16). Biz, who was most famous for his hilarious, but vulnerable 1989 single “Just a Friend,” was 57.

In the wake of his death, people from across social media have expressed their condolences and commemorated his life with special messages. “Rest in power Biz..I love you bro. @officialbizmarkie,” LL Cool J wrote in an Instagram post.

“This one hurts baad … RIP to my Aries bro… ahhh man @BizMarkie damn im gonna miss u so so many memories.. hurts bad. My FRIEND,” Q-Tip wrote in a tweet.

Immortal Technique also took time to pay his respects to the late rapper. “Travel safe OG. Rest in Power to the legend Biz Markie. Love & Respect,” he wrote in a tweet

Others paying homage to Biz include Phonte, Bootsy Collins, Michael Rapaport and many, many more. It’s just one sign of the impact that Biz made before his passing.

In a statement, Biz’s manager confirmed that the rapper passed away while in the presence of his loved ones.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce, this evening, with his wife Tara by his side, hip hop pioneer Biz Markie peacefully passed away,” he writes, confirming the passing of the “Just a Friend” rapper. “We are grateful for the many calls and prayers of support that we have received during this difficult time. Biz created a legacy of artistry that will forever be celebrated by his industry peers and his beloved fans whose lives he was able to touch through music, spanning over 35 years. He leaves behind a wife, many family members and close friends who will miss his vibrant personality, constant jokes and frequent banter. We respectfully request privacy for his family as they mourn their loved one.”
