CIAC deserves tip of cap for moving LL baseball semifinals to Cubeta Stadium

Sunday morning started with questions and ended at 3:30 in the afternoon with the best possible answer.

The CIAC has moved the Class LL baseball semifinals to Cubeta Stadium in Stamford on Tuesday.

Good for the CIAC.

Good for tournament director Damian Frassinelli, the Stafford athletic director who worked hard to make it happen.

Cubeta is three miles from Westhill High and eight miles from Brien McMahon High.

Those FCIAC schools will meet at 3:30 p.m.

Cubeta is 13 miles from Norwalk High and 5.5 miles from Greenwich High.

Those two will meet at 7 p.m.

Winners advance to the Class L championship at Palmer Stadium in Middletown Friday or Saturday. That’s a complicated scheduling story in itself, a story that runs through all the spring sports this week. Stay tuned.

Municipal Stadium in Waterbury, where the Class LL semifinals were scheduled, is 59 miles from Greenwich. Considering the Cardinals were scheduled to play Norwalk there at 7 p.m., that’s a travel time somewhere between one hour and infinity — depending on rush hour traffic.
